If you're hosting "A Christmas Story" party or know a fan of the classic movie, you might need to make this A Christmas Story fudge. Just a few ingredients, made in the microwave, and sure to be a conversation-starter.
A Christmas Story fudge
This A Christmas Story fudge recipe had me laughing the whole time I was making it.
I hope we all know the now-classic movie scene from A Christmas Story, where Ralphie, helping his father change a flat tire on the way home from visiting Santa, spills the bolts and shouts, "Oh, fudge!" Only he didn't say "fudge," did he?
Nope. And thus, Ralphie's mother washes his mouth out with soap.
Specifically, she washes his mouth out with a red bar of Lifebuoy soap. Here, I write "Oh fudge!" on the soap fudge, but if you're going for authenticity, you can also write "Lifebuoy."
"soap" fudge
So A Christmas Story fudge takes that scene quite literally.
These "soap" bars of fudge are a good size, so when it comes to eating, sharing a piece may be wise. Then again, it's so delicious... you might need a whole bar. Like all of our fudge recipes, this fudge needs only a few ingredients and can be made in the microwave.

how to make A Christmas Story fudge
To make A Christmas Story fudge, you will need silicone soap molds and stone stamp letters. Alternatively, you can pour the fudge into an 8-inch square baking pan and just cut rectangles, but I really like the look of the fudge from the molds.
supplies and ingredients to make fudge
- silicone soap molds
- stone stamp letters
- 2 ⅔ cups white chocolate chips (16 ounces)
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 ounces)
- pinch salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- red food coloring
how to make soap fudge
Let's make fudge!
step one: microwave your ingredients
In a large, microwave-safe bowl, place thewhite chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk.
Microwave at 70 percent power for 90 seconds. Stir well, using the residual heat to full melt the chocolate until the mixture is very smooth.
Alternatively, you can set the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water (making sure the bottom of the bowl doesn't touch the water) on the stove-top.
Please note, the recipe here uses Nestle-brand white “morsels,” which is actually confectionery coating. If you’re using white confectionery coating chips (no cocoa butter listed in the ingredients)), use 16 ounces. If using pure white chocolate (with cocoa butter listed in the ingredients), use 19 ounces.
step two: add the stir-ins
Stir in a pinch of salt, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Stir until you achieve the color you like. I suggest Americolor Soft Gel Paste food coloring.
Pour the mixture into the soap molds. Depending on how much you fill each cavity, you should get 6 to 8 bars of "soap."
The molds come with two sets of six, so you will have some empty cavities. Place the molds on a baking tray and chill.
step three: add the letters
Chill the fudge until it's set enough to remove from the molds, two hours. Overturn the fudge onto a baking tray and use the stamps to impress your saying into the fudge. Keep the fudge in the refrigerator until time to serve or gift.
