What Affects Paint Prices?
Paint Finish
Paint finish is the factor that affects the luster, or shine of the paint. Different finishes will come with different price tags. Benjamin Moore offers:
- Eggshell finish
- Matte finish
- Flat finish
- Semi-gloss finish
- High-gloss finish
Environmentally Conscious Paint
Eco-friendly paint is paint that has low or no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) or gasses. Often, paint that is free of VOC’s will have a different price than other paints.
Other Specialty Paints
There are so many varieties of paint available! You may need a mildew resistant paint for your bathroom, or a waterproof paint for the exterior of your house, or a self-priming paint for cabinets.
How Much Does Benjamin Moore Interior Paint Cost?
I found all prices and specifications on the Benjamin Moore website in order to provide you with the most current information. There are several lines of Benjamin Moore interior paint.
Benjamin Moore Aura Waterborne
The Aura line of acrylic paints comes in satin, gloss, eggshell, and semi-gloss finishes. It costs $79.99 per gallon. The Aura line is known for its color-lock technology. The color-lock is extremely fade resistant and is great for vibrant, long-lasting color that won’t rub off.
It has zero VOCs and low odor. It is also mildew resistant. The Aura is a self-priming paint. This means you don’t need to purchase a separate primer like this! The paint will seal the surface, as well as add color. One gallon will cover 350-400 square feet.
The Aura line has a waterborne interior paint line, and a bath and spa line, as well. The bath and spa line is recommended for high-humidity environments.
Benjamin Moore Regal Select Waterborne
The Regal line of acrylic paints are what brought fame and fortune to the Benjamin Moore company over 60 years ago! The paint comes in flat, eggshell, pearl, semigloss, and matte finishes. This paint is slightly less expensive at around $63.99 per gallon.
The Regal paints are self-priming. They are thick and creamy with an excellent coverage and mildew resistance. This paint will cover all surfaces, from drywall to concrete and brick. One gallon will cover approximately 400-450 square feet, making it a great value per gallon.
Benjamin Moore Ben Waterborne
The ben paint line is designed to be super user-friendly! It is advertised for easy application and touch-ups. This acrylic latex paint is the least expensive of Benjamin Moore’s interior paints at $44.99 per gallon.
The ben paint offers fewer finish options with just semigloss, flat, and eggshell finishes. It is also a primer and paint combination, making it an even better value! The ben paint is zero VOC, low odor, and mildew resistant.
Some consumers prefer the ben line over the Regal line, because the ben paints are acrylic latex, while Regal is 100% acrylic. Acrylic paint dries very fast, and it can be difficult to correct mistakes. One gallon of ben paint will cover 350-400 square feet.
Benjamin Moore Muresco Ceiling Paint
The Muresco ceiling paint (you can also find it on Amazon) is a flat finish acrylic paint designed especially for painting ceilings. It costs $41.99 per gallon on the official site as of now. Who Is Benjamin Moore?
History of Benjamin Moore Paints
Moore Brothers was founded in 1883 in Brooklyn, New York. They sold one type of paint that was only available through independent retailers. They became Benjamin Moore & Co in the 1900s and continued to find success with their easy-to-use paints in a broad range of colors.
In the 1950s, Benjamin Moore introduced its still famous “Regal” line of paints. Homeowners found it to be easy to apply. The line introduced its popular, easy-to-clean, eggshell formula in 1972.
Benjamin Moore continues to create new lines of paint. Their website and app provide a tech-savvy consumer with more options for painting help and color matching.
Current Owner of Benjamin Moore Paints
In 2000, Benjamin Moore was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway. This was the first time in the history of the company that Benjamin Moore was not run by a Moore descendent.
“We are extremely excited about the opportunity to add a company with such an outstanding reputation for quality and leadership in its industry to the Berkshire group,” said Warren Buffett, the world-renowned investor and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway.
Where Are Benjamin Moore Paints Made?
Benjamin Moore paints are produced in the United States. They have manufacturing facilities in New Jersey, New York, Texas, Massachusetts, and Alabama.
What Is the Quality of Benjamin Moore Paints?
Benjamin Moore paint is considered to be one of the highest quality interior and exterior paints on the market. Their quality and price are comparable to Sherwin Williams and Behr.
You will find that Benjamin Moore has a very loyal following. There are homeowners and professional painters who exclusively use Benjamin Moore paints, and swear by the quality and durability.
Good Housekeeping Institute
The Good Housekeeping Institute named Benjamin Moore’s Regal Select line of paints as the best overall interior paint in 2020. They praised the coverage and durability.
Benjamin Moore’s “Ben” line of paints was proclaimed the best value, according to the experts at Good Housekeeping. It is a primer/paint combination, making it an excellent value.
The Benjamin Moore “Natura” line was named the best for bedrooms. It is free of VOCs, and fade resistant. The testers did find it messier to apply than the other Benjamin Moore paints, however. Unfortunately, Benjamin Moore no longer manufactures the Natura line of paints. They now carry Eco Spec paint, which is comparable, though not available everywhere.
Good Housekeeping found that Benjamin Moore’s ‘aura’ paints were best for accent walls, with their bright, fade-resistant colors.

Where Can I Find Benjamin Moore Paint?
Retail Stores
Ace Hardware and Lowe’s both carry Benjamin Moore paints. Some local paint stores may also carry Benjamin Moore. Check the website store locator to find a sales location near you.
Online
Benjamin Moore paint is also available on their website. However, not all items are available for online purchase. For example, when I pulled up the Waterborne ceiling paint and the ben interior paint, I got a message that those products are only available for in-store pickup.
There are options for in-store pickup on the website. If you find a paint you like, you can order it and pay for it on the website, then pick it up locally in as little as three hours.
I was also able to find Benjamin Moore paint in a few limited colors on Amazon. If you’re looking for white Benjamin Moore ceiling paint, Amazon may be an option, though their price might not always be equal to or lower than the price listed on the Benjamin Moore website.
How Can I Save Money on Benjamin Moore Paint?
I am all about savvy shopping tricks! Watch local hardware stores for sales and rebates. Sometimes, Benjamin Moore paint may make its way to a clearance or damaged rack. If you are diligent, you might be able to find a deal!
A slightly dented can wouldn’t make a difference in the quality of the paint as long as the paint inside it is intact. So grabbing one of those cans for a nice discount is almost always a smart idea.
Another tip to save money on paint in general is to prime first if you are making a big color change. Tinted primers like this are available! A primer will really cover the old paint. This means you will need fewer coats of the new paint. Even though Benjamin Moore is a priming paint, this tip will still work!
What Will It Really Cost to Paint a Room?
If you are not making a huge color change, two coats of Benjamin Moore paint should do the trick!
Most U.S. bedrooms are around 150 square feet. One gallon of Benjamin Moore paint will most likely be enough to paint two coats. Depending on which paint you choose, your price for paint will be between $44.99 for the Benjamin Moore ben interior paint, and $79.99 for the Benjamin Moore Aura paint.
The painting supplies needed to complete the job will be between $75-100. So, the total price to paint a bedroom with Benjamin Moore paint will be about $120-$180.
Most U.S. living rooms are around 600 square feet. You will need two gallons of paint to paint a living room. Paint costs for Benjamin Moore paint will be between $89.98 and $159.98. Once you add in the cost of painting supplies, your final cost to paint a living room with Benjamin Moore paint will be about $165-$260.
Can I Get Product Samples?
Product samples are available on the Benjamin Moore website. Large 4×8” color swatches are available for $1.99 each (though, a small version of these may be available for free from your local store!). 12×12” peel and stick paint samples are $5.99 each.
Pint-size color samples range from $10.99 to $13.99, depending on the type of paint. Sometimes a paint sample is helpful before you invest in an entire gallon of paint!
