Review by Dina ▪️🔹 ★★★★★ 1
French thriller with a non linear story line that I saw got some hate for "having way too many coincidences to be realistic".
I mean, I guess. But I don't want to watch realistic, misery p*rn always. I want some distraction. So, if you fall into this camp, you might be entertained.

Review by WraithApe ★★★★
Ensemble piece in the vein of Amores Perros, where the stories of disparate people are linked together as their connection to a single key event is gradually unpicked; in this case, it revolves around their indirect involvement in the disappearance of a local woman. Told in a linear way, it wouldn't work as well as it does, but the film cleverly reveals the same events from multiple points of view, building context with each new take. As it zooms in on each protagonist's story in turn, it simultaneously zooms out at a macro level, the bigger picture coming ever more sharply into focus. It's a complex screenplay that bears the hallmarks of being based on a well-structured novel. The source…

Seriously good French thriller about murder, unfaithfulness and fate. Based on a novel. A fair few twists and turns, and although there are some dubious plot drivers, it doesn't detract from a great 2 hour ride.

I liked this. The story unfolds as you see it from different perspectives, but it wasn't trying to be too flashy or clever with it. I was into it. This is the third film this week I've watched that Valeria Bruni has been in too. It's just been by accident but I do think she's very cool.

Review by Sam 🎞🏴☠️ ★★★½
Mysterious, suspenseful, multilayered crime drama; slowly unfolding (i.e. non-chronological) and gripping story, interesting characters and tense atmosphere.
Maybe best comparable to other Euro thrillers like „The Invisible Guest“, hence I recommend this one ☝️ 😁

Review by pemberton ★
If I see a worse film in 2021 without it being a total hatewatch then I will be really surprised. The film tries to use the Rashom*on multi-narrative device to get past a story that bears less scrutiny than the in-house magazine at Wetherspoons; piling ridiculous coincidences higher and higher until they topple over. It says nothing, means nothing, everyone in it is a dull gobsh*te, 10% of the film is two people MSNing each other, and it is patronising.

Review by Noel Penaflor ★★★★
Hold on to your baguettes.
The comparisons to Fargo are apt. This twisty French thriller will titillate your Audrey Tatous and Jean your Dejardin.
Will make you want to read subtitles! Je voudrais une chambre pour deux!

Review by Sofia ★★★½
A film of woven narratives, temporal shifts, and interlacing sequences between characters who know very little of each other, only of their own dark intents. Desire, forgery, mockery, and beneath it all, shame. Though propelled by whatever dark or innocent motive, each individual is a victim to the ultimate governing force of chance. “Chance is stronger than you ever will be.” There is something faintly disquieting in how little control an individual really holds, and how ignorant he remains even when the truth of it glares right into him.

Review by Hutch ★★★
This is one of those films that for all its technical chops and strong performances always feels like you’re watching a script. It starts small and spins outward in increasing complexity to touch on globalisation, colonialism and the bankruptcy of ordinary lives. But not much of it sticks and the plotting becomes increasingly strained relying on improbabilities to pull the interconnecting stories together. The pleasure in watching this type of film is in seeing how the threads are tied, but the lack of loose ends is also what makes it so frustrating, denying it room to breathe. If you are drawn to intricate plotting over credible characters then this has much to recommend it.
