“ | He cannot exist where there is no modernity, because his entire purpose is given to him by modernity. He is a god of blood, a god of spine and bone and sinew, to remind the denizens of this world that it is not good. It is cruel and hateful and that is good, that is right. Modernity is a sin and he is the correction, so that we can once again live as we must: cold, and hungry, and starving, and very, very afraid. | „ |

Summary
The Scarlet King is the identity of one of the SCP-001 proposals. While the Foundation was aware of the Scarlet King for a long period of time, his true nature was not known. Only aspects and effects of his existence were truly contained. In an attempt to discover the true nature of the King, Dr. Montauk interviewed a former member of the Children of the Scarlet King.
Through thorough investigating and interviewing, Dr. Montauk discovered that the Scarlet King was not a singular deity, but an abstract idea. An idea born during the birth of modernity, and which then proceeded to shift the past to introduce itself as the Scarlet King. This idea was the tension between the Pre-Modern and the Modern made manifest. As the new world tore down the old world, replacing the pain and brutality of life with concrete structures and a strict method of living, the Scarlet King manifested itself. It represents the Law of Howling, the cry for reality and authenticity that has been lost through the modernization of the world mostly created by the SCP Foundation itself.
Powers and Stats
Tier: High 1-A, eventually 0
Name: The Scarlet King, SCP-001
Origin: SCP Foundation
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown (Started coming into existence less than 300 years ago, but has retroactively modified the past to insert itself since the beginning of time)
Classification: Safe Class Anomalous Entity, Idea, Manifestation of the Boundary between the Pre-Modern and the Modern
Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Abstract Existence (Type 1. Exists as an abstract idea that represents the tension between the Modern and the Pre-Modern), Avatar Creation (Can manifest under many different forms, sometimes as other, abstract ideas), Reality Warping (Can modify the past of entire civilizations or that of his avatars to match his newest form), Transduality (Type 2), Nonexistent Physiology (Nature 2; Aspect 1, 2, 3 and 4), Beyond-Dimensional Existence (Type 2), Acausality (Type 5. Exists far beyond his incarnations and should have similar characteristics to them), Causality Manipulation (Frequently causes changes in his past), Portal Creation (Can create portals to his various realms), Corruption (Type 2. Can corrupt various entities or civilizations in order to bear his image), Large Size (Type 11), Sound Manipulation (Created sounds of hymns sung about him), Dream Manipulation (Can inflict dreams to people), Blood Manipulation (Created a large quantity of pages of blood-stained documents), Fire Manipulation (Created wildfires and fiery images resembling him), Earth Manipulation (Created cracks in the earth), Smoke Manipulation (Can generate smoke), Immortality (Type 8. Stated to be a manifestation of SCP-2747, as a mean of destroying unwanted narratives[1]), likely should have the abilities of his incarnations indirectly
Attack Potency: High Outerverse level (As an idea, the Scarlet King exists beyond the scope of all other incarnations of The Scarlet King and retroactively caused all of them to come into existence), eventually Boundless (Would eventually go on to consume everything except the narrative itself, and was used to counter I. H. Pickman's Proposal[2])
Speed: Nigh-Omnipresent (Exists as an idea present across time, seeping in and filling every spot across history where it might fit in.[3])
Lifting Strength: Immeasurable
Striking Strength: Unknown
Durability: High Outerverse level, eventually Boundless
Stamina: Infinite (As long as tension between the modern and the pre-modern remains)
Range: High Outerversal, eventually Boundless
Standard Equipment: All of the Scarlet King incarnations
Intelligence: Unknown (It is unclear how much agency the Scarlet King as an idea possesses, but it is likely the same as individual incarnations)
Standard Tactics: Wants to subjugate and annihilate all of reality, and will twist reality and history to manifest itself
Weaknesses: His individual incarnations can be temporarily defeated. Actions taken under extreme emotions can counter some of the Scarlet King's abilities. His existence relies on the "modern", the idea of classifying the natural world and forcing humans in a set in and stone and solid lifestyle, opposed to the pre-modern's brutality. In the absence of either the Modern or the Pre-Modern, the Scarlet King will be weakened or even completely de-powered. Stated to be unable to create anything, only twist already existing things in its image
Feats:
- Can counter I. H. Pickman's Proposal and eventually destroy the content of the entire narrative
