Most Greek dressing recipes, store-bought or restaurant options are not vegan. Feta cheese and other dairy ingredients quickly make this style of salad dressing non-vegan.

Luckily, it’s simple to make dairy-free Greek dressing at home in less than 5 minutes. So, no worries, you can easily enjoy this classic dressing (and salad) as a vegan.

Vegan Greek Dressing Ingredients

All the ingredients used in this recipe are easy to find in grocery stores. Check out the “variations” section below for lots of fun ways to customize this dressing recipe.

  • Olive oil: The base of this dressing is some delicious olive oil, which is a classic Greek ingredient. Select an extra virgin olive oil whenever possible; it’ll have the most flavor.
  • Red wine vinegar: For delicious tang, this recipe uses plenty of red wine vinegar. Most salad dressing recipes use a ratio of 2:1 for oil and vinegar (twice as much oil compared to vinegar). I like a tangy dressing so instead use a 1:1 ratio meaning there’s equal amounts of vinegar and oil. Adjust to your preferences by using less vinegar or adding some sugar/ sweetener to the dressing. You can use white wine vinegar if you prefer!
  • Garlic and onion powder: To keep your recipe prep incredibly quick and easy, use dry herbs and spices, starting with onion and garlic powder. These provide lots of delicious flavor in the dressing!
  • Dry basil and oregano: For extra flavor I like to use oregano and basil in my Greek dressing. They’re complimentary herbs that add so much flavor to this recipe.
  • Salt and pepper: Bring out all the other flavors with some basic salt and pepper!

How to Make Greek Salad Dressing

This dressing couldn’t be easier to make. All the ingredients are pantry staples that should be easy to find in your local grocery store.

Step 1: Mix Dressing Ingredients

This recipe couldn’t be easier or faster to make. Simply add all ingredients into a small mixing bowl or jar.

If using a mixing bowl, grab a whisk or fork to mix the ingredients together. If using a jar (which I prefer for easy storage), simply place the lid on the jar and shake!

Create a Greek salad with this dressing or use it to coat veggies before roasting or grilling them for loads of flavor!

How to Create a Balanced Vegan Meal

This recipe largely provides healthy fats from the olive oil used. To create a balanced meal, I like to look for a good source of plant-based protein, carbohydrates and lots of veggies (or fruit) to pair with healthy fats.

If you’re making Greek salad, it’s easy to create a balanced meal.

Simply add some protein from either chickpeas and/ or vegan tofu feta cheese. Then, add loads of salad veggies- (tomato, cucumber, red onion, black olives, chopped lettuce, bell peppers, zucchini – anything you like!).

For some carbohydrates, serve with a side of whole wheat pita bread or create a pasta salad.

Vegan Greek Salad Dressing Variations

This recipe leaves plenty of room for variation. Always customize to your taste preferences!

First, this dressing is very tangy and not everyone wants that. You can certainly add some sweetness with sugar or some type of sugar substitute/ sweetener.

Then, to keep the recipe ultra-simple, I use garlic and onion powder. You could certainly use fresh garlic and/ or onion instead. Just mince it finely before adding in place of the powdered options. Aim for two garlic cloves and/ or 2 tablespoons of minced onion.

Likewise, you could use fresh herbs in place of dry oregano and/ or basil. One or two tablespoons of chopped fresh herbs is a good amount to replace the dry options.

You can also use white wine vinegar in place of red wine vinegar. Another option is to replace 1-2 tablespoons of the vinegar with fresh lemon juice for a burst of delicious citrus flavor.

How to Store Leftover Dressing

Refrigerate leftover dressing in an airtight container or jar. I like to make salad dressing recipes in a jar for easy storage and to save dishes.

The dressing should stay fresh for at least a week, possibly up to 2 weeks, but will begin to separate when it’s left sitting. Simply whisk or shake the dressing to mix it together again. Also, the olive oil may become solid when chilled in the fridge.

Step 1: Mix Dressing Ingredients

  • Add all the ingredients to a small bowl or jar.

    ⅓ cup olive oil, ⅓ cup red wine vinegar, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon dry oregano, 1 teaspoon dry basil, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • If using a bowl, whisk everything together until well combined. If using a jar, tighten the lid and shake to combine your ingredients.
