There are no obvious patterns or quick tricks like for the 9 times table. However, there is an easy way to help students remember 7 x 8 = 56. The answer to 7 x 8 is the two numbers that come before the numbers being multiplied (i.e. 5, 6, 7, 8).
The hardest multiplication is 6×8, which students got wrong 63% of the time. This was closely followed by 8×6, then 11×12, 12×8 and 8×12. The easiest multiplication, on the other hand, was 1×12, which students got wrong less than 5% of the time, followed by 1×6 and 9×1.
Alternatively, write down the numbers 1 to 9, and cross each digit out as it appears in the units or ones column in the 7 times table answers. This reinforces the idea that the final digit does not repeat itself. If 7s don't come easily, have your child write out what they know, and complete the table.
The divisibility rule of 7 states that for a number to be divisible by 7, the last digit of the given number should be multiplied by 2 and then subtracted with the rest of the number leaving the last digit. If the difference is 0 or a multiple of 7, then it is divisible by 7.
